Which is better banff or glacier national park

I always surprise myself with how relaxed I am with planning our trips. I usually leave it until the last minute because I am generally super busy right before we go, and then I throw myself right back into photo sessions the day that I get back! I thought it was kind of on the way, but it was the same drive time from Colter Bay as if we left our house. We wanted to camp for most of our trip; I figured we would get a hotel the first night in each new place because we would be getting in late and then head out early to get a campsite.

We had packed a lot of meals for camping, so we found beautiful spots to cook our dinners and then went back to our hotel. On our first day in Glacier, we drove up the Going-to-the-Sun Road, and the views were spectacular. When we got to the top of the pass, there were many Mountain Goats; they are so beautiful! I love how fluffy they are!

We continued to drive out of the park to Many Glaciers; it was our favorite area! When we make this trip again, we will spend most of our time here. It was a perfectly flat trail that went along several lakes.

The trail was shaded and well maintained, and it would be a perfect trail for kids. If we had more time, we would have gone to Grinnell Glacier. There is a ferry that you can take to Lake Grinnell. On our way back down, we caught the most beautiful sunset over Swiftcurrent Lake when we finished our hike; we ran down the trail to photograph the light.

I took some of my favorite photos on that trail! One of us always has one! This is one of my favorite images, to purchase a Signature Print click here! We are constantly photographing our surroundings and chasing the light! On our second day in Glacier, we Hiked to Hidden Lake.

The trail to the viewpoint of Hidden Lake was on a boardwalk, making it very accessible for lots of people. We continued and hiked down to the lake. It was the most beautiful trail; Baer Grass wildflowers were everywhere. I have wanted to see these in bloom for years! The water was so beautiful, and lots of people were jumping in to see if they could brave the cold, some with clothes, some without…. After our hike, we drove down to Lake McDonald and found the perfect picnic spot and made some dinner!

Im having the same issue as we would like to fly into Glacier and our of Calgary but unsure of how do do this with rental car??

We actually had 2 rental cars to make it cheaper because we could not pass the Canadian border with the rental car. We had the company listed take us across the border. Hi, this trip looks lovely. Love how you did your pictures. Please tell me how you had two car rentals and who took you across the border?

This blog is very helpful! Do you mean East Glacier Village? This is a fantastic and very helpful guide.

We are planning a trip in July to include Glacier National Park, Banff, and Jasper and I have been struggling to figure out an itinerary. Can you make a recommendation on airports and if there is a preferred route to see the key areas mentioned above?

I would fly into Edmonton and stay in Jasper. Go to Edith Cavell Glacier park area nearby where you can watch the glacier calving. I missed this! Let me know if you have any other questions. I made a mistake in our itinerary. We want to include Calgary, so our point of interest are Calgary, Banff, Glacier, Jasper time permitting.

Day 5: Moraine Lake sunrise. Johnston Canyon Hike. Cave and Basin- Banff. Back to the Fairmont Banff Springs. We first stopped at the Glacier Park Lodge since it is such an old hotel just to see its beauty. Time for Pie in St Mary. Day 8: Hiking to Grinnel Glacier. Day 9: Exploring Glacier National Park. Hiking at Logan Pass area. Day Exploring Whitefish.

Day Heading Home. Overall, it was a great Banff to Glacier National Park road trip. While I enjoyed this trip, if I were to plan this trip again, I would make the following changes to the itinerary. I would fly into Edmonton and head to Jasper first. Then I would head to Yoho, Banff, and head south as I did. Before heading to Glacier National Park, I would spend I couple days in Calgary to explore the sites longer if possible.

I wish I could have enjoyed the Banff Gondola but the smoke was too bad when we were there. I missed the Hoodoos Trail in Banff. Do you find it helpful? Comment or ask questions below. If you enjoy this post, please share it with your friends!
